Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s basketball comes up short at No. 14 Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (January 30, 2020) – Despite 27 points from Ariel Watson and four other Warriors reaching double figures in scoring, the Webber International University men's basketball team suffered the season sweep against No. 14 Keiser University, falling 93-85 on the road in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday night.

Webber gave up 33 points in the first 10 minutes of the game, trailing 33-20 before seven consecutive points by Watson cut the double-digit first-half deficit down to six at 33-27 with seven and half minutes left before the break.

Watson then added another 3-pointer followed by back-to-back jumpers by Rasheem Etienne to get Webber all the way back to within one at 35-34 two and half minutes later.

The Warriors finally tied it at 42-42 with 1:10 left in the first half after a free throw by Tommie Luke, but a 14-2 run for the Seahawks over the next three minutes of playing time put Keiser up by 12 points at 56-44 only two minutes into the second half.

Over the next three minutes, Webber responded with an 8-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer by Javonni Quince to get back to within four at 56-52.

Unfortunately, Keiser answered back with seven straight points to start a 14-3 run that made it a 15-point game at 70-55 with 11 minutes left to play.

A minute and a half later, an 8-2 run for Webber, this time finished off by a 3-pointer by Etienne, got the Warriors back to within nine at 72-63. Etienne then hit his second 3-pointer in a span of a minute and a half to make it a seven-point deficit for Webber at 75-68 with 8:16 remaining.

To within seven points, however, was the closest Webber would get the rest of the way as a 13-point deficit (89-76) with only 2:20 left was too much to come back from.

As a team, Webber finished with 10 made 3-pointers while four different Warriors converted at least two shots from long range.

Watson hit three of those 3-pointers and was 12-of-16 from the free throw line en route to scoring 21 or more points for the third time in four games. He also added four assists for the second game in a row.

Quince was 3-for-3 from 3-point range while scoring 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting overall to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Luke scored 14 points and had four rebounds, Chetachukwu Oliver had 10 points and six rebounds, Etienne had 10 points on two 3-pointers, and Malik Morrow had six points on two 3-pointers to go along with a team-high eight boards.

With the loss, Webber fell to 12-11 overall on the season and 5-7 in The Sun Conference while Keiser improved to 18-3 and 10-1 with the win.

Head Coach Allen Corbin said, "We battled and competed for 40 minutes. We definitely have a few things to sure up tomorrow in practice though. We will get better and try to bounce back Saturday at home."

To kick off the final month of the regular season, Webber will return home to the Sabbagh Athletic Center hoping to get back into the TSC win column by hosting Johnson & Wales University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 1.
