BRUNSWICK, Ga. (January 23, 2020) – The Webber International University men's and women's tennis team kicked off their respective 2020 seasons with a pair of losses at the College of Coastal Georgia on Wednesday, January 22, in Brunswick, Georgia. The Webber men's team fell by a score of 6-1 while the Lady Warriors dropped their match 5-2.
After both of the Webber men's and women's tennis squads finished the 2019 season receiving votes in the NAIA Postseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the Warriors began 2020 unranked in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was also released on Wednesday while Coastal Georgia was rated No. 19 on the men's side and was receiving votes in the women's poll. Additionally in The Sun Conference, the Mariners were picked to finish second on the men's side and fourth on the women's.
 
Notable Men's Results:
 
Doubles
	- Senior Ivan Bondarenko and junior Kyle Hall came together for a nice 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, but a 6-1 defeat by senior Matthew Alexander and junior Marc Schneider at No. 2 doubles combined with a short-handed Warrior lineup featuring only four players gave the doubles point to Coastal Georgia.
 
 
Singles
	- Ivan Bondarenko pushed his opponent at No. 1 singles, Arthur Figuiere, to the longest matchup of the day as the pair battled to two tie breakers. In the end, Bondarenko won a seven-point tie breaker in the second set but ultimately fell in a close third set super tiebreaker 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-8).
 
	- Webber's lone win in singles action came in the No. 2 spot as Matthew Alexander defeated Eric Gravelle 6-4 in the first set and 6-3 in set number two.
 
	- Webber falls to 0-1 both overall and in The Sun Conference while No. 19 Coastal Georgia improved to 1-0 in both categories.
 
 
Notable Women's Results:
 
Doubles
	- The Warriors were swept in all three doubles matches with the closet result coming in a 6-3 loss No. 1 doubles by senior Jenna Fosdick and freshman Lily-Rose Rochat.
 
 
Singles
	- Webber was victorious both at No. 1 and No. 3 singles in matches that ended with third set super tiebreakers. Junior Isabelle Niehoff defeated Eva Rubio 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) in the No. 1 spot while Jenna Fosdick took down Daniela Alvarez Camp by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) in the No. 3 position.
 
	- Junior Svenja Koenig also pushed her competitor, Caitlyn Napier, to a third set super tiebreaker in the No. 4 singles spot but fell 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).
 
	- Webber falls to 0-1 both overall and in The Sun Conference while nationally-recognized Coastal Georgia improved to 1-0 in both categories.
 
 
Next Up:  The Warriors will hit the road for another TSC match on Saturday, February 1, at 3 p.m. as Webber plays at SCAD Savannah, which is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA on the women's side.
