1/22/2020 2:14:00 PM

BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 22, 2020) – Coming off of two Sun Conference wins of six points or less last week, the Webber International University men's basketball team will now play in The Sun Conference Men's Basketball Game of the Week on Thursday, January 23, against St. Thomas University inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. It will be the official start of the second half of the conference season for the Warriors.

First tip is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. as Webber (11-9 overall, 4-5 The Sun Conference) looks to earn the season sweep over St. Thomas (12-4, 5-4) after earning its first conference win of the season on the road over the Bobcats 79-72 in Miami Gardens, Florida, back on November 23, 2019. Webber is currently tied with its rival Warner University for fifth place in the conference standings while St. Thomas is alone in fourth place, one game ahead of the Warriors and the Royals.

Heading into Thursday's matchup, the Warriors will be looking to win their third straight conference game after defeating Thomas University 84-79 in overtime at home on Thursday, January 16, and reaching triple-digits in a 100-94 win on the road over the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday, January 18. St. Thomas, meanwhile, is coming off of a 101-80 loss at No. 22 Keiser University last Thursday followed by a 70-44 victory at home over Johnson & Wales University on Saturday.

The Warriors have currently won seven of their last nine games overall while the Bobcats have earned a win in eight of their last 10 outings.

"I am very excited to be playing in the game of the week," spoke Webber's Head Men's Basketball Coach Allen Corbin. "Our guys have worked hard to get here. I hope we come out with a lot of energy and play to the best of our abilities. This is a huge game."

During Webber's last game at Coastal Georgia last Saturday, senior Ariel Watson exploded for a career-high 44 points while junior Tommie Luke added his third highest scoring output of the season so far with 30 points. Now, Luke ranks fourth individually in The Sun Conference at 20.75 points per game while St. Thomas' Justin Brown is second in the league at 23.38 points per game.

The 44 points by Watson are the most by any Warrior during the three-year tenure of Coach Corbin at Webber so far, surpassing even the 39 points scored at home by Luke against Southeastern University (Nov. 15) last season.

Additionally, the Warriors shot .667 percent (14-21) from three against the Mariners, which was good for the highest 3-point shooting percentage in a single game of any team in The Sun Conference so far this season.

In all of The Sun Conference, Webber is currently third in scoring offense per game at 87.35 points per game while St. Thomas is fifth in scoring offense (86.35 ppg) and is fourth in scoring defense (75.94 ppg). The Bobcats also lead the conference in rebounds per game at 46.13 boards per contest while the Warriors are fourth at 43.70 rebounds per game, but it is Webber who last Thursday against Thomas grabbed the most defense rebounds of any team in The Sun Conference in a single game so far this season with 46.

Other key performers for the Warriors individually so far in 2019-20 include junior Jaylon Myles averaging nine points per game; freshman Javonni Quince averaging 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game; junior Rasheem Etienne at eight points per game and junior Joel Coffey with 5.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest.
