Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors beat Thomas by 15 to earn third straight TSC victory

BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 16, 2020) – The Webber International University women's basketball team is officially on a winning streak in Sun Conference play as the Warriors defeated the Night Hawks of Thomas University 61-46 on Thursday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center to earn their third straight Sun Conference win to kick off 2020.

It was also the first home conference game of the New Year for Webber (10-8 overall), which got back to .500 in The Sun Conference at 4-4 and is now hoping to make a run into the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign.

During the Warriors' current three-game winning streak, Webber has held its opponents to under 56 points in all three contests while also winning by a margin of at least 15 points all three times. The 46 points allowed today against Thomas were a new season-low in points allowed during conference games for Webber.

Thomas, meanwhile, reached the 10-loss mark on the season at 2-10 and remained winless in conference play at 0-8. Both of the Night Hawks' TSC losses during 2020 coming into Thursday's matchup with the Warriors were within single digits.

Webber's leading scorer in this one was RayGene Garner with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

Emmarrie Carmen added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting and had eight rebounds while Paris Copeland scored eight points and had three blocked shots.

Additionally, Thalia Jackson finished with a career-high 10 rebounds and Breyonna Reed dished out a very impressive seven assists.

After a stifling first quarter in which the Warriors held the Night Hawks to only three made field goals and 21.4 percent (3-14) shooting, Webber then led by as much as 18 in the second quarter at 24-6 with 7:49 left before halftime.

Webber then took a 30-17 lead into the break after shooting 50 percent (5-10) in the second quarter and holding Thomas again to below 27 percent shooting.

Thomas never got to within closer than 13 the rest of the way as the Warriors expanded their lead to 24 at 54-30 on a layup by Garner with 7:41 left to play.

The Warriors never trailed in the game.

Now, the Warriors will look to ride their current momentum into a big TSC road matchup on Saturday, January 18, as Webber battles at the College of Coastal Georgia in what will be the TSC Women's Basketball Game of the Week. After Thursday games, Coastal Georgia is in second place in The Sun Conference at 6-2 with a four-game winning streak in conference play. The Warriors and the Mariners will do battle starting at 2 p.m. in Brunswick, Georgia, as Webber tries to make it four wins in a row.
