LAKE WALES, Fla. (January 11, 2020) – The Webber International University women's basketball team earned its third win in a row over its Crooked Lake rival Warner University, defeating the Royals 70-53 behind 18 points from
Paris Copeland and 15 from
Eletra Graham on Saturday inside the Turner Athletic Center.
It was also the second straight win in Sun Conference play for Webber (9-8 overall, 3-4 The Sun Conference) and was the fourth win in five games overall for the Warriors while Warner (2-15, 0-7), playing in its first season under a new head coach, lost for the 15th time in 16 games and remained winless in the conference.
Copeland scored her 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 50 percent shooting (2-4) from three while also adding four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Graham's 15 points came on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range.
Taniya Patrick scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and added seven rebounds and three blocked shots while
LeAndra Franklin again had a great all-round game with six points, eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals.
Breyonna Reed also added six points while
Amaya Lasley had five points and five rebounds.
Webber never trailed in the contest and after the Warriors hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter to lead by eight (23-15) after 10 minutes of play and then led by 11 (41-30) at halftime, the third quarter is where Webber all but put it away.
The Warriors outscored Warner 16-9 in all in the third quarter as at one point Patrick went on an 8-2 run by herself to make it a 55-39 Warrior advantage with only a minute and a half left in the period. Lasley then added two free throws to make it 57-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
Next up, Webber will play at home for the first time in 2020 as the Warriors welcome the Night Hawks of Thomas University into the Sabbagh Athletic Center for a 5:30 p.m. first tip on Thursday, January 16. The Warriors will be trying to extend their Sun Conference winning streak to three straight wins.
