BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 17, 2019) – Wednesday, September 18, will feature a doubleheader of action between Webber International University and Warner University in Babson Park, Florida. It all starts at 4 p.m. with nonconference men's soccer on Warrior Field and concludes with Sun Conference women's volleyball at 7 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
The first win for Webber over Warner so far in 2019 came from the Warriors' women's soccer team, which defeated the Royals 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday, September 10, in nonconference action. Both the Warriors' men's soccer and women's volleyball teams will look to keep it going on Wednesday.
The Webber men's soccer team, under the direction of 12th-year Head Coach
Neil Cockburn, is off to a 3-1 start so far in 2019 after defeating NCAA Division-II Auburn University Montgomery 1-0 last Monday (9/9) and falling to Faulkner University, also by a score of 1-0, last Wednesday (9/11). It was the first time Webber men's soccer started a year 3-0 since 2013.
Warner men's soccer, meanwhile, is 2-2 so far in 2019, and has won two straight matches coming off of a 1-0 nonconference win over Ave Maria University back on August 27 and a 5-2 victory over Trinity Baptist College this past Saturday on September 14. The Royals' season opener on August 22 was a 4-0 loss against nationally-recognized the University of Mobile.
Leading the Warriors' men's soccer team so far is junior
David Negrin Ruiz with three goals scored, senior
Matheus Gomes with two game-winning goals and sophomore
Mateo Fernandez Sassoni with three assists. Additionally, freshman goalkeeper
Felipe Freiria is 3-1 with two shutouts, 17 saves and only one goal allowed in 315 minutes. In all of the NAIA, Gomes currently ranks second in game winning goals per match (0.50) while Freiria is fourth in goals against per match (0.29).
The biggest difference between Webber men's soccer and Warner so far this season, is that in the same number of matches, the Warriors have only allowed a grand total of two goals with a .900 save percentage while the Royals have given up eight goals for a save percentage of .714 percent.

In their first season under Head Coach
Gretchen Hand in 2019, Webber women's volleyball is currently 4-4 overall and 1-1 in The Sun Conference. The Warriors have yet to earn a win at home, falling to No. 10 Eastern Oregon 3-0 on August 16 and 3-0 against nationally-recognized Reinhardt University on August 30. On the positive side, the Warriors finished 3-1 at the Faulkner University Invitational for the third year in a row and most recently defeated Johnson & Wales University 3-1 on Saturday, September 14.
Warner is currently 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference in women's volleyball. The Royals opened their season with a 3-1 loss against No. 10 Eastern Oregon on August 16, the same date Webber played the Mountaineers, and most recently Warner fell 3-1 against the College of Coastal Georgia on September 11.
So far in The Sun Conference, Webber is third in digs per set (18.1) and fifth in blocks per set (1.1) as a team while individually,
Kalameli Matautia ranks sixth in kills per set (2.8),
Svenja Koenig is seventh in blocks per set (0.6) and
Laura Embry is 13th in assists per set (2.9).
