Men’s tennis sweeps NCAA D-II West Chester University of Pennsylvania

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2019) – The Webber International University men's tennis team earned another victory in nonconference action, sweeping NCAA Division-II West Chester University of Pennsylvania 9-0 on Saturday, March 9, on the Webber Campus Tennis Courts. Meanwhile, the Webber women's tennis team fell short against the Golden Rams, falling 6-3.

  • Christof Buehler won 6-0, 6-1 playing at No. 2 singles for the first time this season.
  • Jordi Serrano won 6-2, 6-4 playing at No. 1 singles for the first time.
  • Marc Schneider won 6-3, 6-3 playing at No. 3 singles for the first time.
  • Matthew Alexander won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, Raul Rodriguez won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, and Michael Kotlin won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. It was the first singles action for all three players so far this season.
 
  • Webber men's tennis improved to 6-5 overall on the season, surpassing its number of wins from a year ago during Coach Otis Cutshaw's first season with the Warriors while also earning its most wins as a program since the 2013-14 season.

  • Webber's two wins in singles action were both three-setters that helped Webber to come back and tie the match at 3-3 before dropping the final three singles matches. Paula John came back to win 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 2 singles before Isabelle Niehoff also came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 3 singles.
 
  • The Webber women's tennis team saw its record fall to 6-5 overall.
 
Next Up:  Next up for Webber is spring break tennis as the Warriors will look to host a couple of matches and play some others around the Orlando, Florida, area next week. Webber's next currently scheduled match is for Wednesday, March 20, at 10 a.m. against another NCAA D-II school, Franklin Pierce University.
