BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2019) – For the second time this season, the Webber International University men's volleyball team was swept by Life University, this time falling on their home court in the Sabbagh Athletic Center 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17).
Webber hit only .039 percent for the match compared to .284 percent for the Running Eagles, including a .364 percent mark in the first set as Life closed the first set on a 7-1 run to win it after the Warriors led 19-18. The run featured five attack errors by the Warriors.
Webber then trailed 20-13 in the second set after a 10-2 run for Life, and then in the third set the Running Eagles led by scores of 19-11 and 22-13 en route to running away with it.
Webber was also hampered by 11 team blocks for Life while only getting five team blocks themselves, with four total blocks being accredited to
Orlando Fletcher, who also recorded seven kills and hit .294 percent.
Luke Taffer recorded seven kills as well for the Warriors,
Zachary Ayala had four kills,
Tim Rouch Jr. had 12 assists, and
Liam Gilchrist had three service aces.
The first meeting between Webber and Life back on February 16 in Marietta, Georgia, was much closer as the Warriors fell by scores of 25-23, 28-26, 25-21.
Webber fell to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the Mid-South Conference after Saturday's loss while Life improved to 15-2 and 10-1.
Webber will have another tough Mid-South Conference meeting up next as the Warriors travel to Laurinburg, North Carolina, to face St. Andrews University at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The first meeting between the Warriors and the Knights back on February 22 was a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) win for St. Andrews in Babson Park, Florida.
