BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 26, 2019) – The Webber International University women's beach volleyball team earned a 4-1 victory over NCAA Division-II Florida Southern College on day one on the Florida Atlantic University Paradise at the Burrow beach volleyball tournament in Boca Raton, Florida, on Friday, February 22. The Warriors' other three matches at the two-day tournament were 5-0 sweeps at the hands of strong NCAA Division-I squads, including two teams ranked in the top-20 of the NCAA.

With its 2019 home opener against Sun Conference rivals Southeastern University and Warner University set for tomorrow, February 27, Webber beach volleyball is now 3-3 on the young season under its first year head coach Jessica Gehrke-Hauptmann.
 
Match 1 (Webber 0, No. 20 Florida Atlantic University 5):
 

• The No. 1 duo of Emily Bowen and Hannah Tannone fell 21-17, 21-13 against the combination of Carly Scarborough and Nicole Navarro.
• Mekenzie Breuklander and Madelyn Glouner fell 21-11, 21-10 in the No. 2 spot to the duo of Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok.
• Salla Rautiainen Jessica Terry fell 21-15, 21-12 in the No. 3 spot to Amanda Silva and Nicole Grant.
• Making her career debut in beach volleyball on Friday was graduate student Luiza Oliveira, who partnered with Kobi Allston in the No. 5 spot, where they fell 21-9, 21-12.

 
Match 2 (Webber 4, Florida Southern College 1):
 

• Emily Bowen and Hannah Tannone swept Kayla Trefren and Kylee Whiteleather 22-20, 21-13 in the No. 1 spot.
• Mekenzie Breuklander and Madelyn Glouner won 21-17, 21-18 in the No. 2 position.
• The rest of the matches were three-setters as Jessica Terry and Salla Rautiainen won 21-19, 12-21, 15-12 in the No. 3 position; and Kobi Allston and Luiza Oliveira won 9-21, 21-8, 15-11 in the five hole.
• In the No. 4 spot, Molly Fusarelli and Julia Ferraro lost a close one 21-15, 20-22, 15-12.

 
Match 3 (Webber 0, No. 19 Texas Christian University 5):
 

• Hannah Tannone and Emily Bowen fell 21-19, 21-11 to Jaelyn Greene and Victoria McDonald in the No. 1 spot.
• Kobi Allston and Luiza Oliveira fell 21-17, 21-11 in the No. 5 spot.

 
Match 4 (Webber 0, University of North Florida 5):
 

• Emily Bowen and Hannah Tannone lost 21-12, 21-14 in the No. 1 spot; Mekenzie Breuklander and Madelyn Glouner lost 21-18, 21-15 in the No. 2 spot; Salla Rautiainen and Jessica Terry lost 21-13, 21-14 in the No. 3 spot; Julia Ferraro and Molly Fusarelli lost 21-11, 21-11 in the No. 4 spot; and Kobi Allston and Luiza Oliveira fell 21-13, 21-12 in the No. 5 position.
