BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 25, 2019) – For the week ending on Sunday, February 24, Webber International University's
Hugo Hasegawa was named The Sun Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week while
Megan Kelson earned TSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week,
George Daniels was named TSC Men's Golfer of the Week, and
Luis Esteban was named TSC Baseball Player of the Week.
Hasegawa, a senior from Nice, France, went undefeated on the week and led his men's tennis team to an undefeated week as well in three matches with an 8-1 win over Warner University on Wednesday, a 5-4 win over Florida National University on Friday and a 7-2 win over St. Thomas University on Saturday. Against St. Thomas, Hasegawa took down the No. 35 nationally-ranked player, Kevin Cubela, who is also ranked No. 13 in the region. In all, Hasegawa went undefeated at No. 1 singles as his other two wins in the top spot were three-set comeback victories of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 against Warner and 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at Florida National.
It was the first of the season and second career player of the week award for Hasegawa, and it was also the second time a player from the Webber men's tennis team has earned player of the week so far in 2019.
Kelson, a freshman from Lakeland, Florida, won the deciding point for the Warriors' women's tennis team against Warner on Wednesday, winning an epic-three set comeback on the final match of the night to clinch it 5-4 in the Warriors' favor. Playing at No. 5 singles for the first time in her young career, Kelson dropped a close first set in a tiebreaker at 7-6 after having a chance to win it up 5-4, and then with the match on the line for the Warriors, Kelson came back from down 4-1 in the second set to win it 6-4 and set up the deciding third set. Kelson continued her inspired play by winning each of the first five games in the third set, giving her 10 straight wins at that point before finishing it off with a 6-1 third-set victory. It was the first win for Webber over Warner in the last six years. Webber women's tennis also hung on to beat Florida National 5-4 on Friday and defeated St. Thomas 7-2 on Saturday as in all, Kelson went undefeated in conference play during the week while winning her first two singles matches of the season, and she also went undefeated in doubles action all week. She defeated the No. 6 player from St. Thomas in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, on Saturday.
It was the first career player of the week award for Kelson, and it was the second time a player from the Webber women's tennis team has earned player of the week so far in 2019 as well.
Daniels, a junior from Hampshire, England, shot single-round scores of 75 and 77 at the Georgetown College Invite at World Golf Village to lead the Webber men's golf team with a tie for 12th place out of 49 total individuals. It was the lowest finish on the leaderboard in any tournament for the Warriors so far this season.

Nancy Nichols. "It takes patience, trust with your swing along with a positive mental approach to accomplish what he is doing. We are proud of his effort, his results, and of his development into a leadership role for our team."
It was the first career player of the week award for Daniels, and it was also the first men's golf player of the week award for Webber so far this season.
Esteban, a senior from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, helped the Warriors' baseball team to a 4-1 week with a two-game sweep over the College of Saint Joseph (Vt.) and a 2-1 Sun Conference series victory over Ave Maria University. Esteban finished with eight hits, eight runs, seven RBI's and three home runs on the week. In just the three-game series against the Gryenes over the weekend, Esteban had seven hits, seven runs and seven RBI's, and he was also 4-for-5 with six RBI's, five runs, two home runs and two walks in the final game of the series on Saturday.

Brad Niethammer said, "I'm proud of Luis [Esteban]. He hasn't had much opportunity, but when he's had a chance to produce this year, he's done a very good job."
Esteban's player of the week award was the first of his career, and it also represented the third time already in 2019 that Webber baseball has been honored by The Sun Conference with a player or pitcher of the week.
