BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 14, 2019) – Led by a career-high 27 points from senior
Georges Dorvilien in a spirited performance, the Webber International University men's basketball team defeated Johnson & Wales University by 28, 90-62, on Senior Night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. In the end, a few different seniors balled out on senior night.
Dorvilien's career night came on 10-of-13 shooting overall to go along with a 4-of-6 mark from 3-point range and a perfect 3-for-3 mark from the free throw line. Dorvilien, a native of Fort Pierce, Florida, also added a career-high five rebounds and career-high five assists. Playing in his first full season as a Warrior, Dorvilien has played in 13 games while scoring 48 points and 19 rebounds, good for an average of 3.7 points and 1.5 boards per game.
Another great senior performance for the Warriors came from
Garrett Woodmansee from Melbourne, Florida, who scored 11 points and added a career-high 14 rebounds to record what was his first career double-double. Woodmansee also dished out a season-best three assists. It was Woodmansee's most points in a game since scoring 10 at Johnson & Wales back on January 12. In his two seasons with the Warriors, Woodmansee has scored 256 career points and has hauled in 109 career rebounds.
Another senior,
Simon Fransis, recorded 10 rebounds to go along with five points. It was the second straight game with 10 boards for the native of Stockholm, Sweden, who has played in 28 games in his only season with the Warriors, recording 224 points and 113 rebounds for an average of eight points and four boards per contest.
Nicholas Blocker, a senior from nearby Lake Wales, Florida, recorded six points and five rebounds. In his two seasons at Webber, Blocker has recorded amassed 256 career points, 156 career rebounds, 87 career assists and 61 career steals.
Last but not least, Webber's final senior was
Nikita Orap, who scored two points and grabbed two boards. In his two years with the Warriors, Orap, who is a native of Moscow, Russia, has scored 254 career points and has brought in 52 rebounds.
Strong performances from the non-seniors for the Warriors on Thursday included junior
Kevin Grace with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting; sophomore
Tommie Luke with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists; sophomore
Rasheem Etienne with six points; freshman
Jonathan Philistin with five points; and sophomore
Herman Robinson with four assists and three rebounds.
Webber got off to a great start with its five seniors in the starting lineup and led by 10 at halftime after shooting nearly 50 percent both from the field (48.57 percent) and from three (47.06 percent) over the first 20 minutes.
The Warriors then turned it on even more in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 46-28.
Webber out-rebounded the Wildcats 27-13 in the first half and finished with a 57-27 rebounding advantage for the game. The Warriors also held a 20-3 advantage in second chance points and a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
Heading into the final game of the season, Webber is now 13-16 overall and 4-13 in The Sun Conference while Johnson & Wales is now 2-22 and 2-15.
Webber will now head south to West Palm Beach, Florida, for its 2018-19 season finale against Keiser University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16.
