WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 16, 2019) – The final game of the 2018-19 Webber International University men's basketball season resulted in a 84-76 loss for the Warriors to Keiser University on Saturday in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Sophomore
Tommie Luke scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocks. Luke finished the regular season ranked first in The Sun Conference in points per game (22.5), second in field goal percentage (51.8 percent), third in steals per game (1.8) and fourth in assists per game (3.8). He was also top-nine in all of NAIA Division-II in points per game and was top-13 in total scoring (631 points).
Senior
Simon Fransis scored 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting with three 3-pointers and two steals, junior
Kevin Grace scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting with four 3-pointers, and senior
Georges Dorvilien scored seven points with five rebounds.
Sophomore
Rasheem Etienne scored six points and dished three assists, and senior
Garrett Woodmansee also scored six points in his final game as a Warrior.
Webber sank 13 3-pointers for the sixth time this season and shot over 40 percent from three for the 11th time.
Despite shooting a cool 47.1 percent in the second half, the Warriors were outdone by Keiser, which shot an even cooler 53.3 percent over the final 20 minutes.
Webber led by as much as five nearly midway through the second half as a 3-pointer by Fransis made it 50-45 with 11:13 left in the game.
The Warriors then led by five again at 52-47 after another score by Fransis with 10:02 left and went up by five one more time at 54-49 after a layup by
Jonathan Philistin with 8:58 to go.
A layup by Luke gave Webber a two-point lead at 58-56 with 7:27 on the clock before Keiser went ahead for good at the 6:36 mark and stretched its lead to eight at 66-58 with 4:37 remaining.
A 3-pointer by Etienne with 3:36 left got the Warriors to within three at 66-63, and then Webber got to within three again at 68-65 at the 2:42 mark on two made free throws by Dorvilien before the Seahawks scored six straight to go up by nine at 74-65 with less than a minute left.
The Warriors' last gasp came on back-to-back 3-pointers by Woodmansee with 15 seconds remaining to make it 80-76.
Webber finished its 2018-19 season with an overall record of 13-17 and a Sun Conference mark of 4-14, while Keiser improved to 15-13 and 11-7 entering the postseason as the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the conference.
