TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (November 2, 2019) – After losing twice by single digits in its first two games of the season last weekend, the Webber International University men's basketball team again fell twice this weekend at the Florida College Classic, both times in close games decided by less than seven points. On the night of Friday, November 1, the Warriors fell 78-71 against Cumberland University (Tenn.) before coming back the next day on Saturday, November 2, and dropping a high scoring 113-108 overtime game against the host school of the tournament, Florida College.
Corey Corbin scored a career-high 29 points during Saturday's matchup with Florida College. Corbin was 12-of-20 from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point range, and he was also only one rebound shy of a double-double for the second time this season with nine rebounds.

Chetachukwu Oliver, who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, a career-best in both categories as a Warrior. Oliver was 7-for-14 from the field.
Tommie Luke, meanwhile, finished with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, five assists and three steals against the Falcons as well. It was Luke's third straight game with 20-plus points in only four games to start the year so far.
The fourth and final Warrior in double figures in scoring against Florida College was

After the Warriors led by one at halftime at 45-44, Webber fell behind Florida College by as much as 10 in the second half at 70-60 with 12 minutes left in regulation.
Fortunately, the Warriors did not give up and battled all the way back to tie it; and then in the overtime period, Webber led 99-97 as Corbin sank the first basket of the extra period 37 seconds in.
However, Florida College answered with seven straight points to go up 104-99 with 2:32 left, but Webber got back to within one at 104-103 with 1:36 left following back-to-back jumpers by Luke and Corbin.
After a jumper by the Falcons to make it 106-103 with 1:13 on the clock, Webber got back to within one point one last time at 106-105 after a pair of free throws by Luke with 50 seconds remaining.
Then, a 3-pointer by Florida College followed by a 1-for-2 trip at the foul line by Corbin and then two made free throws by the Falcons again made it a five-point game at 111-106 with only 17 seconds left.
Back-to-back misses from three by the Warriors led to a late score by Oliver with four seconds left to get Webber back to within three at 111-108 with only four seconds left, but two more made free throws by the Falcons sealed it.
Webber's Head Men's Basketball Coach
Allen Corbin said, "I saw some good things today on the court and obviously some bad things that need to be fixed. I am going to do everything I can to get these guys a win. I am very hopeful to put together a full 40-minute game."
Against Cumberland, Luke led the Warriors with 21 points on a 15-for-22 mark from the free throw line while
Jaylon Myles was next with 16 points followed by
Rasheem Etienne with 10 points. Myles shot 50 percent both from the field (6-12) and from 3-point range (3-6) while Etienne added two 3-pointers.
Joel Coffey led the Warriors in rebounding against the Phoenix with eight boards while
Javonni Quince added seven rebounds.
After trailing by as much as 20 points (60-40) against Cumberland with only 10 minutes left to play, the Warriors scored eight straight points, the first six of which were free throws by Luke, in less than a minute to make it 60-48.
Then, with CU up by 18 at 75-57 with only three and a half minutes left, that is where things got interesting as the Warriors went on a huge 14-0 run to get back to within four at 75-71 with only 45 seconds to go.
Unfortunately, the Phoenix were able to close out the win by hitting back-to-back free throws on their next passion followed by a Warrior miss from 3-point range with only 20 seconds left.
As a team, Webber shot only 50 percent (21-42) from the free throw line against Cumberland, leaving much needed points off the board, and was only 6-for-25 from three.
