Warriors rout Tigers by 60 at home

BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 12, 2019) – Three days after winning its 2019-20 home opener by 30 points, the Webber International University women's basketball team was even better on Tuesday, defeating Trinity College (Fla.) by 60 at 91-31 inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

Despite allowing the Tigers to shoot over 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter, the Warriors still led by double digits after 10 minutes at 24-13 and then got on fire in the second quarter by shooting 62.5 percent (10-16) from the field while holding Trinity to only 25 percent (4-16) in the quarter.

In all, Webber outscored Trinity by 20 in the second quarter at 28-8 to lead 52-21, and then the Warriors dominated the second half even more so from a defensive standpoint by holding the Tigers to only 11.1 percent (2-18) shooting and six points in the third quarter followed by only 9.1 percent (1-11) shooting and four points in the fourth quarter.

For the game, Webber held Trinity to only 23.2 percent (13-56) shooting from the field and did not allow the Tigers to make a single 3-pointer (0-13).

The Warriors outscored the Tigers 48-18 in points in the paint, 40-11 in points off turnovers, 18-5 in second chance points, 26-2 in fast break points and 38-10 in bench points.

Webber's offensive attack featured a balanced scoring effort with 12 different players recording at least one field goal.

Taniya Patrick led with the way 16 points and five rebounds, and had a season-high in both blocks with three and in steals with two.

Emmarrie Carmen scored a season-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds, and was followed by RayGene Garner with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

The fourth and final Warrior to reach-double digits in scoring was LeAndra Franklin with 11 points, four rebounds and a season-best six steals.

Amaya Lasley added seven points, seven rebounds and five steals, a career-high in all three categories, and Breyonna Reed had four points, four rebounds, three steals and a season-high eight assists.

Making her first career appearance was freshman Atuanya Radway with eight points on a perfect 2-for-2 mark from the field.

Selena Rodriguez had six points on two 3-pointers for the second game in a row and also had a career-high six rebounds.

Thalia Jackson had five points; and last but not least, freshman Samantha Pacheco had a career-high six steals to match Franklin's number.

In all, the Warriors also caused 35 turnovers from the Tigers and came up with 30 steals as a team.

The last eye-popping stat of the night was Webber's 24 assists as a team on 33 made field goals.

"We really executed offensively and shared the ball," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Grady Morrell. "I was very impressed by our first three quarters, but we needed our bench to play a little bit more confidentiality at the end."

The Warriors are now 2-0 on their current four-game home stand and are 3-1 overall in 2019-20, but the competition will get a little bit tougher this weekend inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center as Webber opens up Sun Conference play at home against Keiser University. Tipoff is currently scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, as both teams will sport a 3-1 overall record heading into the matchup.
