Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women’s volleyball falls in three sets vs. Keiser

BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 9, 2019) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team fought very hard in sets number one and three but in the end, came up short in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-22) sweep at the hands of Keiser University on Wednesday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

It was the third Sun Conference sweep in a row the Warriors have suffered and was the second such result in a row on their home court as Webber fell to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in The Sun Conference. Keiser, meanwhile, saw its record rise to 22-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference, matching its program-record for overall wins in a single season set back in 2015 and improving upon its standing as one of the top three teams in the league this season.

Kalameli Matautia led Webber with 10 kills and was one dig short of recording the second double-double of her senior season with nine.

Next in kills was Svenja Koenig with five and Salla Rautiainen with four.

Laura Embry finished with 11 assists and was followed by Brianda Valdez with seven while Embry, Koenig and Jessica Terry each had seven digs. Additionally, Terry added three service aces while Embry had two.

The Warriors were limited to .057 percent hitting in the first set, -.208 percent hitting in the second set and only .020 percent hitting overall while Keiser hit over .200 percent in each of the first two sets.

In the opening set, Webber trailed 18-5 after a 7-0 Keiser run which concluded an even bigger 10-1 Seahawks' run. However, the Warriors battled back into it a little bit down 22-17 after a kill by Madelyn Glouner before kills by Keiser on three of the next four points gave the Seahawks the 1-0 set advantage.

In the final set, Webber actually led 8-3 after back-to-back kills by Matautia. Webber's last lead of the night came at 12-11 in the third set after another kill by Glouner, but from there, Keiser scored the next four points to go ahead 15-12 and jumpstart an 8-2 run that made it a 19-14 Seahawks' advantage in all.

Webber attempted to stay alive as a kill by Koenig made it a two-point Warriors' deficit at 22-20, and then a kill by Valdez made it 23-21 and another kill by Koenig made it 24-22 before the final kill by Keiser's do-it-all superstar, Abbie Seward.

The Warriors and the Seahawks will do battle one more time this week as the two teams meet up with a 2 p.m. showdown on Saturday, October 12, inside the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
