Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Warriors swept by Seahawks in second straight match

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 12, 2019) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team showed little resistance against Keiser University on Saturday, falling 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-17) on Saturday in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Just like she did in the first meeting between the two teams earlier this week on Wednesday, October 9, in Babson Park, Florida, Kalameli Matautia led Webber with 10 kills.

Samantha Davila and Salla Rautiainen both added four kills while freshman Swey Brown recorded a career-best three kills.

Brianda Valdez finished with 11 assists, Laura Embry finished with seven digs while McKinzie Maloney had six, and Matautia and RayGene Garner both finished with three blocks.

The Warriors allowed the Seahawks to hit over .300 percent in all three sets, including a percentage of over .400 percent in the final set lifting Keiser's overall hitting percentage to above .350 percent.

Webber's only leads the entire match were 1-0 in the first set and 3-2 in the second set.

With the loss, Webber fell to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in The Sun Conference. It was the first time since 2015 the Warriors have had 10 or more losses in a single season. Keiser, meanwhile, set a new program-record for wins in a single season by improving to 23-8 overall and 7-2 in the TSC.

Additionally, the two losses for Webber this week against Keiser snapped a seven-match winning streak the Warriors had going against the Seahawks.

Next for the Warriors will be a tri-match at Florida College in only two days. Webber will battle Florida College at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 14, before taking on the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 3 p.m. The Warriors swept Florida College 3-0 back on September 24 earlier this season while the last meeting between Webber and St. Francis was a 3-1 victory for the Warriors back during the 2017 campaign.
