BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 9, 2019) – For the second time in less than two weeks, the Webber International University women's soccer team fell 7-0 on Warrior Field against a top-four nationally-ranked NAIA program, this time falling to No. 4 Southeastern University on a rainy Wednesday afternoon in Babson Park, Florida.
Just like in its meeting with No. 1 Keiser University back on September 28, Webber (4-4-1 overall, 1-4 The Sun Conference) was held to zero shots at halftime.
Overall, the Warriors finished with only three shots on the match as
Megan Warner shot high in the 51st minute;
Angelina Conde had a shot blocked in the 72nd minute and then
Alexyss Handy fired a shot high in the 74th minute.
In the goal for Webber was freshman
Natalie Bartek (2-1), who tied a career-high with nine saves, seven of which came in the second half.
Before the game started, there was an hour and five-minute lightening delay, but it did not take long for Southeastern to get on the scoreboard.
For Southeastern (10-2 overall), which improved to 4-0 in TSC play for the first time in program history, Uchenna Kanu scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the match and then assisted on the third and final goal of the first half by the Fire, which came in the 26th minute off the foot of Bania Duran.
Duran then went on to record the hat trick with back-to-back goals in the 54th and 56th minutes to make the score 5-0 at the time.
Additionally for the Fire, Rachel Wallace finished with two assists while Isamar Duran assisted on Southeastern's sixth goal of the match in the 76th minute and scored its final goal in the 81st minute.
Webber's Head Women's Soccer Coach Brain Fallon said, "We played a national contender today; what a top notch team. However, let me say I was very encouraged by the play of my athletes and the discipline they displayed to avoid needless mistakes. It's been a tough week or two for us, but I know we are ready and prepared to get back to our winning ways."
Next up, Webber will travel to North Miami, Florida, for a 2 p.m. meeting at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, October 12. After that, Webber will host its 2019 Senior Day at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, against Ave Maria University.
