Women’s soccer outmatched by JWU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (October 12, 2019) – The Webber International University women's soccer team managed 11 shots on goal but was unable to get one into the back of the next as the Warriors fell 3-0 in a Sun Conference matchup with Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon at the Miami Shores Recreation Complex.

It was the third straight shutout and fifth shutout in the last six matches that the Warriors have suffered after previously starting the year 3-0-1.

Leah Borders and Angelina Conde led Webber (4-5-1 overall, 1-5 The Sun Conference) with five total shot attempts each while Megan Warner had three and Malia Domingo, Sienna Scully and Alyssa Rivera each had two. Additionally, Francesca Mascali, Charlee Lutton, Kelcee Jackson and Hannah Vigotty each added one attempt on goal.

All three goals for Johnson & Wales (9-2, 4-1), meanwhile, came off the foot of Savannah Jackson, who finished with what was her eighth hat trick of the season and 12th of her career.

JWU's goalkeeper, Denise Mendoza, held onto the shutout after making 11 saves.

Despite putting up six more attempts on goal than the Wildcats and outshooting the home team 23-14, it was the quality of shots and the play by Jackson and Mendoza that made the difference for JWU.

"We played so well, but honestly goals win the game," spoke Head Coach Brian Fallon. "You have to score otherwise the best you can hope for is a tie. Hats off to Johnson & Wales for putting some in the net."

Webber women's soccer will now host its 2019 Senior Day at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, against Ave Maria University.
