Women’s volleyball swept twice at Florida College Tri-Match

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (October 14, 2019) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21) against Florida College in the first match of the day before falling again 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-21) against the University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Monday during the Florida College Tri-Match.

Against Florida College, Kalameli Matautia recorded 10 kills for her third match in a row and had a strong .421 attack percentage while Salla Rautiainen and Brianda Valdez both had 11 assists.

Defensively against the Falcons, Rautiainen and Svenja Koenig both had three blocks while Jessica Terry had eight digs and McKinzie Maloney has seven. In all, the Warriors out-blocked Florida College 7-5.

Despite losing, Webber outhit Florida College in both the first (.179 to .156 percent) and third sets (.333 percent to .257 percent).

It was the first loss for Webber against Florida College since 2009 and was only the second loss for the Warriors against the Falcons in the history between the two teams.

Against St. Francis, Matautia had seven kills, Rautiainen had seven assists and Koenig had six digs.

The Warriors now have twice as many losses as wins on the season at 6-12 as Webber will now have to try and snap its streak of six straight sweeps next time out.

Next up, Webber squares off against a strong Southeastern University team that swept the Warriors back on September 11 of this year. The upcoming matchup between the Warriors and the Fire will take place in two days on Wednesday, October 16, at 7 p.m. in Babson Park, Florida.
