Women’s basketball earns season sweep over rival Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. (January 26, 2019) – The Webber International University women's basketball team used an inspired effort from multiple players to defeat rival Warner University 79-62 on Saturday inside the Turner Athletic Center in Lake Wales, Florida.

Webber improved to 8-12 overall and 3-9 in The Sun Conference while Warner fell to 7-17 and 0-12. The Warriors used the win to keep pace with Keiser University (11-13, 5-8) and Thomas University (8-16, 5-8) and remain 1.5 games behind a potential TSC postseason berth with six games left in the regular season.

Paris Copeland led Webber on Saturday with 16 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Montrese Weller scored 14 points with four 3-pointers.

Breyonna Reed scored nine points and dished out four assists, and LeAndra Franklin scored nine points with three assists. Briana Williams scored eight points while hauling in four rebounds; Dariah Bolden also scored eight points; and not to be left out, Taniya Patrick was very impressive, finishing with eight points, a career-high 16 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks.

After shooting only 31 percent from the field in the first half and trailing by five (34-29) at halftime, Webber responded in a big way in the third quarter, shooting 61 percent (11-18) from the field with a 57 percent mark (4-7) from 3-point range to outscore Warner 32-17 and go up by 10 (61-51) after three quarters.

"We shared the ball much better in the second half and rebounded like a good basketball team, which ultimately led to our victory today," commented Head Women's Basketball Coach Grady Morrell.

Next up, Webber will look to keep it going against the College of Coastal Georgia at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, back in sweet home Babson Park, Florida.
