BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 18, 2018) – The Webber International University baseball team routed Florida National University 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Heart of Florida Field. Â
It was a special day for the Warriors and Head Coach
Brad Niethammer as they faced off against Webber alum, Florida National's head coach Alfredo "Tito" Carrillo Jr.
The Warriors were led by good pitching as starter and reigning Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week
Tanner White (4-0) pitched seven innings allowing one run on five hits and four strikeouts.
To compliment White, relief pitchers
Brady Mintell and
John Shutrump came in to pitch scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
Webber's runs came via a two-run home run to right by
Cristian Rivera in the second inning, a two-run double down the right field line by
Jesse Coleman and an RBI single to right by
Alex Rodriguez to make it 5-1 in the fifth, a solo blast to left by
Chris Medina in the seventh and a two-run single by
Napo Ballestero in the eighth.
The Warriors improved their record to 28-19 overall as Florida National dropped to 15-24.
Next up, Webber will head to South Carolina for its final Sun Conference series of 2018 against the University of South Carolina Beaufort, starting a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 20, and then finishing up on Saturday, April 21, at 12 p.m.
