WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 11, 2018) – The Webber International University softball team split its series with The Sun Conference opponent Keiser University on Wednesday afternoon, losing game one 1-0 and then winning game two 14-7.
After being held scoreless in game one, Webber brought out the bats for game two, scoring 14 runs on 14 hits while being led by
Victoria Atkinson.
Atkinson went 2-for-4 in game two with her two hits being home runs. She also scored three times, and had three runs batted in and a walk. In game one, Atkinson had two doubles and a walk, and finished the day 4-for-6 overall.
In addition to Atkinson, five other Warriors finished with a multi-hit performance in game two while two others had three RBI's. Overall, the Warrior offense had three big innings, scoring four runs in the first and second innings and then adding five insurance runs in the seventh.
Leadoff hitter
Marisha Bullard went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, three RBI's and a walk.
Alyssa Rodriguez added two singles, a run and an RBI.
Madelyn LoCascio hit a three-run homer in the second inning, and she also had a single to finish with three RBI's and two runs scored.
Meghan Lindell hit an RBI double, scored a run and added a single. Last but not least,
Beatriz Navarro rounded out the multi-hit efforts with two singles and a run.Â
Freshman pitcher
Stephanie Johnson got her second win on the season improving her record to 2-1.
In game one, Keiser scored one run in the first inning and the Warriors could not get anyone to cross home plate despite putting runners in scoring position in five different innings.
The starting pitcher for Webber was
Raven White (7-5), who unfortunately got the loss but pitched well overall. White allowed just one run on six hits in her complete game effort.
The main offense for the Warriors came from Atkinson with her two hits and
Laura Borders, who also had two hits.
Webber is now 16-13 overall and 8-8 in the TSC, which moved the Warriors into fourth place in the standings, and Keiser moved to 17-13 and 5-9 on the year.
The Warriors will head to Brunswick, Georgia, as they will face TSC opponent the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday, April 14, starting at 1 p.m.
