Hebding pitches one-hitter in sweep over No. 17 USCB

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2018) – The Webber International University softball team swept No. 17 the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Saturday afternoon at Nancy Nichols Field. The Warriors' Sabrina Hebding pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout in game two, winning 2-0. In game one, senior Megan Isoba hit two home runs to the lead the way for Webber in the 6-2 victory.

Hebding had three strikeouts to go with one hit allowed, two walks and one hit by pitch over the seven-inning stretch to improve her record to 5-1 with a 1.46 earned run average.

Like Hebding, Raven White also had a good performance in game one as she pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run while walking only one batter. White improved her record to 5-2 with a 1.88 ERA.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Warriors got to the Sand Sharks' starting pitcher Maria Molloseau. Going into the game, Molloseau had an impressive 1.35 ERA and had let up only two home runs over 62 innings pitched.

The Warriors exceeded that number in five innings as Isoba matched that herself with two solo homers. In the first inning, Laura Borders hit a two-run line drive home run that gave the Warriors an early 2-1 advantage.

Isoba's second home run of the game started a three-run sixth inning for the Warriors in which Marisha Bullard singled to the shortstop scoring Daisy Riggleman, and then Borders hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Madelyn LoCascio for her third RBI of the game and giving the Warriors a 6-2 lead.

In game two, Cassidy Roberts scored in the third inning with the bases loaded when Meghan Lindell got hit by a pitch for the second time on the day. Then in the fifth inning, Riggleman hit a line drive down the left field line to score Anna Schutzler, who took over on the base paths for Isoba. Both of Webber's runs in game two came with two outs in their respective inning.

Riggleman finished game two 2-for-2 at the plate while Bullard also added two knocks in each game and was 4-for-7 on the day in total.

Webber moves to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in The Sun Conference as South Carolina Beaufort fell to 20-9 overall and 0-4 in the TSC.

The Warriors have started conference action very well as they currently lead the TSC in wins.

"I am proud of how our team bounced back from a couple of tough losses," said Head Coach Laura Tucker. "They have worked hard in practice this week to make adjustments. Our pitching was phenomenal and our hitters had a great showing today at the plate. Our defense had big plays with runners on base, and both games were great team wins. I'm very proud of the girls and how they played today."

The Warriors will be back on Nancy Nichols Field on Tuesday, March 20, for a nonconference doubleheader against the University of Northwestern Ohio starting at 2 p.m. in Babson Park, Florida.
