Softball takes down nationally recognized Olivet Nazarene University

PLANT CITY, Fla. (February 17, 2018) – The Webber International University softball team earned its third straight shutout victory to start the 2018 season, run-ruling Olivet Nazarene University 10-0 in five innings on Saturday morning at the Randy Larson Softball Complex.

Webber (3-0) played a very good team in Olivet Nazarene (4-2), which was receiving votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll. The Tigers entered Saturday's matchup coming off of two-game sweeps over No. 22 Warner University and Ave Maria University with their only loss coming against No. 16 Southeastern University in extra innings.

The Warriors' pitching again pitched a three-hit shutout for the third consecutive game as sophomore Raven White (2-0) threw four impressive innings to shut down the Tigers' offense, and then Sabrina Hebding came in to close out the game. Both pitchers added to their scoreless innings streak to start the season.

Meanwhile, Webber's offense brought out the sticks as they took it to the Tigers from the get go, scoring twice in the first inning and putting up 10 total runs in only five innings.

Leading the way for the Warriors was senior Laura Borders, who went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs while hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning to give the Warriors an 8-0 lead.

Meghan Lindell, finished with two hits and brought in two runs batted in on a single to left center in the top of the first inning to help give Webber the momentum from the get go.

Marisha Bullard had a hit, scored two runs and had an RBI. Beatriz Navarro also added a hit and two RBI's to open the flood gates in a third inning in which the Warriors scored five runs and increased their lead to 7-0.

Then to top things off, freshman Samantha Rolfe had a pinch hit RBI double to right center, scoring Bullard in the top of the fifth to make it 10-0.

Coach Laura Tucker had this to say after the impressive win, "I am extremely proud of the way our team played today. Our hitters had great at bats and came up with big hits with runners in scoring position. We were able to get an early lead and keep it. Our pitching was outstanding and our defense played solid as well. I am very proud of the way these ladies played to win for each other today."

The Warriors will head back home to face Cincinnati Christian University in a four-game series starting with a doubleheader on Monday February, 19, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. before finishing up the series on Tuesday February 20, with another doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
