Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s basketball falls at Johnson & Wales

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (February 15, 2018) – In what was the final road game of the 2017-18 season for the Webber International University men's basketball team, Osandai Vaughn scored a game-high 23 points, but it was not enough as the Warriors fell 88-76 against Johnson & Wales University on Thursday night.

In addition to leading both teams in scoring and shooting 50 percent from the field (8-16), Vaughn also led Webber on the boards as he pulled in seven rebounds and added three assists. Joseph Serrano had a strong second half, scoring 10 of his 16 points in the period and using his quickness to get up and down the court and take advantage of quick scoring opportunities. Serrano finished with an impressive 7-for-10 mark from the field and also added six rebounds and a team-high four assists.

The final Warrior in double figures in scoring was Garrett Woodmansee, who netted three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Tommie Luke added nine points while Austin Evans had eight points on 4-of-8 shooting with four rebounds and Obi Romeo had five rebounds.

As a team, Webber was very strong from the free throw line, finishing 15-for-18 (83.3 percent) as Vaughn was 5-for-6, Luke was 3-for-4, and Woodmansee, Serrano and Romeo were both 2-for-2.

This one was never as close as the final score would indicate as Webber trailed by 24 with over 10 and a half minutes remaining and then fell behind by the same margin with only four minutes left.

It was 88-70 with 1:18 left before Webber scored the final six points of the game.

Two minutes into the start of the game, Webber trailed 7-0 and then fell behind by 12 (18-6) seven minutes into the action as the Warriors started off only 2-of-12 from the field.

A layup by Vaughn with 6:50 left before halftime made it a three-point deficit for the Warriors at 25-22, capping a 16-7 Webber run. However, the Wildcats responded with a big 15-6 run over the next four and a half minutes to go back up by 12 at 40-28.

JWU then quickly opened it lead up to 20 (57-37) less than four and a half minutes into the second half, and never looked back as Webber again started off a half poorly from the field (2-9 to start second half).

Webber dropped its fifth straight game and fell to 10-14 overall, 6-11 in The Sun Conference and 3-8 in road games. JWU rose to 8-19 and 6-11 to draw into a tie with the Warriors for seventh in the conference standings.

Senior Day for the Warriors is next up as Webber hosts No. 19 Keiser University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 17 inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
