BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 28, 2018) – The Webber International University women's basketball team defeated Fisher College (Mass.) 76-53 on Friday inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center to finish off 2018 on a positive note. It was the 100th career win for Head Coach
Grady Morrell, who is in his eighth season as the leader of the Warriors.
It was also the final nonconference game of the season for Webber (6-7), which will now enter 2019 looking to take advantage of their momentum with an important slate of conference games coming up. Â Fisher, which entered the game with its best start to a season in program history, fell to 9-3 overall.
There were many different contributors with well-rounded performances in this one for the Warriors as eight different players converted on at least two field goals.
Taniya Patrick led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists and a 5-for-5 mark from the free throw line.
Breyonna Reed also reached double-digits in scoring with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while adding five rebounds, four assists, four steals and a blocked shot.
Other strong stat lines for Webber included
Briana Williams with nine points, two assists and two steals;
Montrese Weller with nine points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals;
Paris Copeland with eight points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists; and
Abby Unis with five points and five rebounds. Additionally, making her first career collegiate performance and hauling in five rebounds was
Thalia Jackson.
The Warriors led by as much as 20 (41-21) late in the first half and led by 23 (48-25) one and a half minutes into the second half, but an 8-0 Falcons' run over the last 2:24 of the third quarter got Fisher back into it down by 13 at 56-43.
From there, Fisher made it a 10-point game with a 3-pointer to start the final quarter but would get no closer as Webber went on an 11-0 run while the stingy Warrior defense held the Falcons to only 13.3 percent shooting in the quarter.
In addition to holding the Falcons to only 10 points in both the first and the final quarters, Fisher was also limited to only 27 percent shooting overall and an 18.5 percent mark from 3-point range. Webber also outscored Fisher 52-16 in points in the paint and took advantage of 23 Falcon turnovers to outscore Fisher 30-13 in points off turnovers.
Next up, Webber returns to TSC action at St. Thomas University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, followed by a home game against Florida Memorial University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 5.
