Women’s basketball battles tough in exhibition against Rollins College

WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 9, 2018) – In its second exhibition contest in three days, the Webber International University women's basketball team came up short against NCAA Division-II Rollins College, 79-58.

Senior Montrese Weller led both teams in scoring with 17 points on three 3-pointers and 6-for-11 shooting overall. Eletra Graham was next with 14 points, followed by Briana Williams and Taniya Patrick each with nine points and Kadejah Huggins with six.

Graham and Williams both added two 3-pointers while Weller, Patrick and Abby Unis each finished with a team-high six rebounds.

As a team, Webber finished with only 12 turnovers compared to 14 for Rollins, and the Warriors also outscored Rollins in points off of those turnovers 17-11.

It was a very good first quarter for Webber, which trailed by six less than two and a half minutes into the game but got back to within two at 10-8 after a three by Williams with 1:58 left in the quarter.

Two free throw by Huggins at the end of the opening 10 minutes made it a three-point deficit at 14-11, and then the Warriors got to within one at the 7:51 mark in the second quarter after another three by Williams to make it 20-19.

Rollins answered with a 6-0 run, went ahead by 11 at 35-24 with only three minutes left before halftime, and then finished off the quarter on a 21-6 run overall to lead by 15 (41-26) at the intermission.

Webber started the second half on a 7-2 run to make it 43-33 less than a minute and a half into the third quarter. The 10-point margin was the closest the Warriors would get in the second half.

Next up, Webber will return to regular-season action and will also open up its 2018-19 Sun Conference slate by hosting No. 3 Southeastern University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, in Babson Park, Florida.
