Warriors fall to NCAA Division-I FIU in exhibition action

MIAMI, Fla. (November 8, 2018) – The Webber International University men's basketball team tested itself against NCAA Division-I Florida International University in an exhibition game on Wednesday, November 7. The Warriors fell by a score of 110-84.

Four different players for Webber scored in double digits as Malik Morrow and Garrett Woodmansee led the way with 14 points, Tommie Luke followed up with 13 and Kevin Grace added 12.

Woodmansee added six rebounds while Luke did the same with Morrow and Grace right behind them with five boards apiece.

Senior forward Simon Fransis flirted with a double-double and filled out other stat lines as he finished his night with 11 rebounds, six points, five assists, a block and a steal.

Freshman Jonathan Philistin added to the mix with eight points, two rebounds and two assists.

Point guard Rasheem Etienne also contributed with seven points, five rebounds and three assists.

Webber allowed FIU to shoot 51.8 percent from the field while 70 of the Panthers' 110 came in the paint. Additionally, FIU forced the Warriors into 26 turnovers that lead to 32 points.

In all, FIU led 10-0 90 seconds into the game after forcing Webber into three turnovers on its first three possessions.

The Warriors did win the rebounding battle 52-50.

Through two exhibitions and two official games, Webber's offense is averaging 87 points per game.

"FIU was a very good basketball team and had a great crowd", said Head Coach Allen Corbin. "It was exciting to play in that environment. We will learn a lot from this game and it will prepare us for the future."

The Warriors will quickly get back to Babson Park, Florida, and pack up as they are headed to Missouri to face off against Culver-Stockton College on Friday, November 9, at 7:30 p.m. and Hannibal-LaGrange University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 10.
