CLEVELAND, Ga. (November 4, 2018) – On Saturday, November 3, the Webber International University women's basketball team played outside of the state of Florida for the first time during the 2018-19 season. The Warriors defeated the Lady Bears by a score of 74-49 to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
Briana Williams,
Taniya Patrick and
Montrese Weller each finished with a game-high 13 points. Williams shot 60 percent from the field, Patrick had seven rebounds and four blocks, and Weller was 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
Dysheka Price was next with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, followed by
Breyonna Reed with nine points and five rebounds on 50 percent shooting and
Abby Unis also with nine points on 4-for-7 shooting.
Leading by eight heading into the second half, the Warriors held the Lady Bears to single-digits in the third quarter to take a 20-point lead at 52-32, and then Webber again held TMU to single-digits in the final quarter to secure the victory.
"We made an effort to concentrate on limiting dribble penetration and limiting turnovers," said Webber's Head Women's Basketball Coach
Grady Morrell." I am happy we did a pretty good job of that because our 3-point shooting on the road is a problem right now."
Next up for Webber is an exhibition matchup against NCAA Division-I Jacksonville University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, before traveling to Winter Park, Florida, for a nonconference game against NCAA D-II Rollins College at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 9.
