BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 28, 2018) – The Webber International University's men's and women's basketball home games against Crooked Lake rival Warner University, scheduled for Saturday, December 1, have been moved up one hour to be played at 1 p.m. for the women's game and 3 p.m. for the men's. The games will still take place inside Webber's home gym, the Sabbagh Athletic Center, in Babson Park, Florida.
The Webber men's basketball team will enter the matchup with an overall record of 4-5 and a Sun Conference mark of 0-2. Warner, which was ranked No. 19 in the preseason NAIA National Coaches' Poll but is now receiving votes in the poll, is 5-4 and 1-1. Three of the Royals four losses have come against teams ranked in the top-11 in the NAIA, including No. 11 Southeastern University by five, No. 9 Union College by 12, and No. 2 Indiana University East by three.
The Warriors feature an explosive offense that has reached 92 or more points three times and 84 or more points five times in nine games. Webber, which is averaging over 80 points per game and is shooting over 42 percent from the field on the season while averaging 9.9 three's per game, has also put up at least 51 points in a half three times so far, including a 59-point first half against Ave Maria in the Warriors' most recent Sun Conference game on November 17.
The Webber men's team currently ranks 29th in the NAIA in 3-point field goals made with 89 and is 30th in 3-pointers per game at 9.889. Defensively, the Warriors are ranked 43rd in the country in field goal percentage defense (0.428), 44th in blocks (26) and in steals (65), and are 46th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (0.333). Warner, meanwhile, is ranked 15th in total rebound margin (10.111), 26th in field goal percentage defense (0.413), 28th in defensive rebounds per game (30.333) and 31st in total blocks (29).
On the women's side, Webber currently sits at 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Warner is 5-5 and 0-2. The Lady Warriors are coming off a nail-biting 59-57 victory over Mayville State University their last time out on Saturday, November 24. Two days later on Monday, November 26, Mayville State defeated Warner by a final score of 69-45 in Lake Wales, Florida.
Webber currently averages 67.7 points per game on the women's side and is converting field goals at a mark of .416 percent compared to only .364 percent by its opponents. As a team, Webber hangs its hat on the defensive side of the ball, ranking 14th in the NAIA in blocks per game at 3.833, 27th in scoring defense per game (57.667), 33rd in assist/turnover ratio (0.861), 34th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (0.266) and 36th in offensive rebounds per game (13.833). Warner will come into Saturday's matchup ranking 19th in assist/turnover ratio (0.993), 28th in three's made (65), 30th in steals (89) and 30th in assists (136).
