Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball improves to 9-0 in TSC with win over St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 6, 2018) – After dropping the opening set by five points, the Webber International University women's volleyball team responded with wins by double-digit margins in each of the next three sets to defeat St. Thomas University 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-9) on Saturday inside the Fernandez Family Center.

For the third straight match, Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu led the Warriors in kills, recording 17 (over four per set) with a .341 attack percentage. She has reached double-digit kills in eight straight matches.

Gilmary Ramos was great, finishing with a match-high 15 assists while also adding 11 digs for her third double-double of the season.

Emily Bowen added 12 kills and nine digs for a near double-double, and Valerie Vargas was also close to a double-double for the second straight match with 12 assists and nine digs.

In all, Ramos, Bowen, Vargas were three of five Warriors with nine or more digs as Nayrelis Pantoja Santos finished with a match-high 18 digs while Hannah Tannone matched Ramos with 11.

Last but not least, Svenja Koenig finished with six kills, a .231 attack percentage and four blocks.

Webber improved to 16-3 overall and 9-0 in The Sun Conference on the season with what is now an 11-match winning streak dating back to September 4. St. Thomas fell to 5-12 and 4-5 with what was its fifth straight defeat.

In all, it was a 2-0 weekend in Miami and a 3-0 week as a whole for the Warriors and Head Coach Lindsey Martin.

"It was a great week for Warrior volleyball," said Martin. "We played three tough matches on the road and found a way to win against some very talented teams."

The 3-1 final was the same score the Warriors beat the Bobcats by in each of the last two Sun Conference Tournament Championship matchups. Webber looks poised again in 2018 to return to the conference title match as the Warriors currently sit atop the TSC standings as the only unbeaten team in conference play.

The Warriors will get a test next week on Wednesday, October 10, at 7 p.m. against the College of Coastal Georgia during Webber's "Dig Pink Week". It is the Mariners of Coastal Georgia who were the last TSC team to defeat Webber (3-1) back on October 21, 2017. The Warriors' winning streak against TSC opponents now stretches across 14 matches.
