NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (October 5, 2018) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team made quick work of Johnson & Wales University, sweeping the Wildcats 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-21) on Friday night inside the Wildcat Center.
It was the 10th straight victory for Webber (15-3 overall), which also improved to 8-0 in The Sun Conference. Webber has not lost a TSC matchup in its last 13 such matches dating back to late October of last season.
The Warriors now own a 6-0 all-time series record against Johnson & Wales, which fell to 8-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference on the season.
Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu led the way with 12 kills and a .269 attack percentage.
Valerie Vargas added a double-double of 20 assists and 11 digs, and was one of three Warriors with double-digit digs as
Hannah Tannone finished with 13 and
Emily Bowen had 10.
Bowen also had six kills and a .278 attack percentage,
Kalameli Matautia had five kills, and
Salla Rautiainen had four kills and a big .667 attack percentage.
After entering the matchup hitting .176 percent on the season, Webber hit a whopping .345 percent in set number two. The Wildcats, meanwhile, entered hitting .151 percent as a team and finished with percentages of -.031 in the first set, .000 percent in the second set and .108 percent in the third.
Webber will stay in the Miami, Florida, area for a quick turnaround against TSC foe St. Thomas University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is the Bobcats that the Warriors have defeated in each of the last two seasons in The Sun Conference Tournament Championship match.
