Women’s soccer blanked by Thomas on Senior Day

BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 24, 2018) – The Webber International University women's soccer team's Senior Day was spoiled by Thomas University, 2-0, on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

It was the final home match for Jenna Kidd, Kendelle Knapp, Victoria Garcia, Dominiq Gist and Luiza Oliveira, who were each honored before kickoff.

Oliviera recorded one of Webber's three shots on goal with a shot that was saved in the 22nd minute. Less than a minute later, sophomore Lauren Caffee missed wide.

Luiza Oliveira, a senior midfielder/forward from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, playing in her second year as a Warrior, currently leads the Warriors with three assists on the season and is second with six goals scored and with 15 points. She has seven career goals.

Victoria Garcia, a senior midfielder from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, who joined the Warriors in 2016, scored her first career goal in the match leading up to Senior Day. She also has one assist on the season and has two helpers in her career.

Dominiq Gist, a senior defender from Rochester, New York, who also came to Webber in 2016, has one assist on the season. Kendelle Knapp, a two-year player for Webber from Tampa, Florida, and Jenna Kidd, a three-year player from Oregon, Ohio, are two other senior defenders who have been leaders for the Warriors all season long.

The Warriors' other attempts on goal against Thomas on Wednesday came from junior Megan Warner less than 10 minutes into the action and then from sophomore Leah Borders on a header in the 37th minute.

Moments after the attempt from Warner in the 10th minute, Webber's first shot of the match, junior goalkeeper Alyssa Rodriguez stopped a quick counter attack by the Night Hawks with her second save, and then less than 30 seconds later, Borders' first shot of the match went high.

Webber's final shot attempt both of the first half and of the match came via a wide attempt in the 42nd minute by freshman Hannah Vigotty.

After a scoreless first half in which the Warriors were outshot 11-6, Webber was then outshot 6-0 in the second as the Night Hawks scored in the 54th minute and in the 61st minute. Not only did Webber not muster a shot attempt in the second half, but the Warriors also finished with no corner kick opportunities.

Rodriguez would finish with four saves in the first half and three in the second.

Webber fell to 4-10-1 overall and 2-6-1 in The Sun Conference while Thomas raised its record to 5-6-2 and 4-3-1.

The Warriors only have one match remaining in their first season under first-year head coach Brian Fallon. Webber will conclude the 2018 campaign in West Palm Beach, Florida, against the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA, Keiser University, at 1 p.m.

"Today was a battle to protect the dignity of the seniors with the added efforts of the underclassmen," said Fallon. "Although we did not prevail, the effort was valiant and we look forward to next year's match."
