MIRAMAR, Fla. (October 24, 2018) – The Webber International University men's soccer team competed in its fifth overtime match of the season and came up short, falling 2-1 to Florida Memorial University on Wednesday night.
The Warriors struck first as transfer senior
Enzo Di Benedetto scored his first career goal as a Warrior to put Webber up 1-0 over the Lions at the 18:09 mark.
Di Benedetto was assisted by
Mateo Sassoni, who has now recorded at least one point in four straight matches.
Webber would hold on its lead until the 68th minute when FMU would tie the match and ultimately send the Warriors to their fifth overtime match of the season.
7:59 into the first overtime, FMU scored again to give WIU its second Sun Conference overtime loss of the season.
The Warriors are now 4-8-2 overall and are 1-7 in The Sun Conference. Florida Memorial is now 2-11 and 2-6.
Goalkeeper
Thomas Debladis would finish with seven saves for Webber. Sassoni led with four total shots, two of which were on goal, and
Kaleb Kelly finished with two shots, one of which was on goal.
Webber, headed into its final match of the season, has now won and lost every match by one goal. Not a single match has been decided by more than one score.
The Warriors will head home to finish their season at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, during Webber's Senior Day against Keiser University.
