BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 20, 2018) – The Webber International University women's soccer team was unable to tame an aggressive Bobcat offense on a hot Saturday afternoon on Warrior Field, falling by a score of 7-3 to St. Thomas University.
After just one half of play, the Warriors found themselves trailing 3-1 with their lone goal coming from
Luiza Oliveira assisted by
Sidney Usina in the 12th minute, which at the time tied the match.
It was Oliveira's sixth goal of the season and Usina's assist was her second in as many matches.
Webber then fought right back into the match with a goal just 1:05 into the second half from
Victoria Garcia assisted by
Leah Borders. It was Garcia's first career goal in her career as a Warrior and was her third point of the season.
Trailing 4-2 in the 64th minute, the Warriors again brought the match back to a one-goal deficit with a goal from Borders, her third of the season and eighth point.
Border's goal was assisted by Oliveira who earned her 15th point of the season, good enough for the second most points on the team.
Ultimately, the Warriors were not able to get any closer than one goal despite their best efforts, which included back-to-back attempts by Warner and Oliveira in the 79th minute that were saved away. A goal there would again have made it a one-score deficit with 10 minutes left to play.
Webber's record now stands at 4-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in The Sun Conference, while STU is now 5-6-1 and 2-5-1.
The next match for Webber will be Senior Day as the Warriors will host TSC foe Thomas University on Wednesday, October 24, at 3 p.m. on Warrior Field.
