BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 2, 2018) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team won 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 16-25, 25-21) over Crooked Lake rival, Warner University, on Tuesday to complete the 2018 season sweep over the Royals.
After a thrilling five-setter in the last meeting between the two teams, the Warriors accepted the challenge ahead of them going into a hostile environment at the Turner Athletic Center against a rival Sun Conference opponent.
Head Women's Volleyball
Lindsey Martin said, "What a match. Both teams, fueled by our home crowds, played with tremendous intensity and passion tonight. The grudge match between our two schools fuels some of the best volleyball in the conference, and tonight was no different. We played with heart and we played for each other, and that's what we need to continue to focus on as we continue through the rest of the season; how to play for each other."
After taking a commanding 2-0 set lead before dropping the third set, Webber again found itself in some trouble as it began the fourth set trailing the Royals 14-7.
The Warriors would regain the lead by using an 11-2 run to go up 18-16, and then Webber would close the door shut with five of their last seven points coming via kills by senior leader
Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu.
Leading the way for Webber in the kills and assists categories were Salanoa-Sagapolu (15 kills),
Emily Bowen (13 kills),
Valerie Vargas (16 assists),

Stat leaders on the defensive end were

In the all-time series between Webber and Warner, which dates back to 2008, the Warriors now hold an 18-8 advantage. Additionally, the Warriors have now swept the Royals in three straight seasons.
Webber currently sits atop The Sun Conference standings improving its record to 14-3 overall and 7-0 in the TSC while Warner falls to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the TSC.
Next up, the Warriors will head to North Miami, Florida, on Friday, October 5, at 7 p.m. to wrap up the season series with Johnson & Wales University. Webber won the previous contest at home in the Sabbagh Athletic Center by a score of 3-1 back on September 8.
