Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pike scores twice as women’s soccer wins opener

LAKE WALES, Fla. (September 6, 2017) – In what was the first leg of the Crooked Cup for the 2017-18 school year, the Webber International University Warriors women's soccer team was victorious over rival Warner University, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Royals Field.

Madison Pike, a freshman forward from Lake Wales, Florida, had a great start to her college career as she netted two first-half goals to lead the Warriors to their first season-opening win since 2012.

Warner struck first less than five minutes into the season with a strong goal by Cristina Clements to the upper 90 off of a free kick just outside the 18, but it was Pike who answered back a little over five minutes later as she scored on an unassisted goal of her own off of a breakaway from the Royals' defense.

At the 24:35 mark, Pike then scored what would be the winning goal as she brought in the corner kick by Isabella Aviolla for the one timer. Pike would go on to finish with three shots, all on goal, while Laura Borders and Luiza Oliveira were next with two shots each.

Next up, the Warriors are likely to see their next two scheduled matches postponed or cancelled due to the arrival of inclement weather. Webber will hopefully return to Babson Park on Wednesday, September 13, to host University of the Virgin Islands for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
