BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 22, 2017) – The Webber International University men's soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales University by a score of 2-0 Friday afternoon at Legion Field in what was The Sun Conference opener for both teams.
Webber (2-2, 0-1) never gained any offensive momentum in the match as the Warriors only fired four shots in the opening half to 11 from Johnson & Wales (5-1, 1-0). Webber finished with only seven shots in total and only one on goal.
The Wildcats' first goal came less than 10 minutes in as Gregory McDoom scored on the assist from Patricio Folon. JWC would tack on an insurance goal at the 60-minute mark as McDoom scored for the second time on the day, this time assisted by Valentine Salinas.
Webber never really got a clean look at an opportunity to score as the team's lone shot on goal came from
Noel Omondi with only 15 minutes left to play. Shots for the Warriors were added by
Brandon Byrne,
Gary Obrien,
Aldo Lopez,
Juan Pablo Zambrano,
Bruno Flores and
Charlie Lambert.
Head Coach
Neil Cockburn had this to say, "We struggled with possession in the first half, but we picked it up in the second half and if we can play the way we did in the second half we will be successful this season."
Freshmen
Andrew Stella and
Robert Green earned varsity status for the rest of the season while junior
Andres Bolanos made his first appearance as a Warrior.
Next up, Webber will host Thomas University in another TSC matchup on Wednesday, September 27, at 1 p.m. before hitting the road for three straight conference matches spanning until Wednesday, October 11.
