BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 18, 2017) – On Wednesday, September 6, the Webber International University men's basketball team donated their time to three local elementary schools as a part of the team's community service work.
The Warriors made appearances at Ben Hill Griffin Jr. Elementary School in Frostproof, Dale R Fair Babson Park Elementary School, and Hillcrest Elementary School in Lake Wales, spending an hour and a half at each school while entertaining students with games such as four square, basketball, football, kickball, tetherball and more.
Senior guard
Osandai Vaughn said, "After participating in the community service, I realized that there is no greater satisfaction than being able to make a difference in the community and in the lives of youth development."
The impact of the men's basketball team's efforts earlier this month will extend far beyond the first day of community service. Head Men's Basketball Coach
Allen Corbin and his staff have successfully established a mentorship program with Ben Griffin Elementary in where the men's basketball team will work every Wednesday to mentor at risk students, read to them and help with assignments.
Coach Corbin had this to say about the importance of being active and involved in the community. "The measure of a man's greatness is not in the number of accomplishments, but in the number of lives that he inspired while achieving those accomplishments. I am blessed to do what I do each and every day and I want to touch as many young lives as I possibly can while doing my job. I had a lot of great coaches and mentors in my life and I would not be where I am today without help and guidance."
