LAKE WALES, Fla. (August 25, 2017) – The 2017 Webber International University football season is nearly here. The Warriors will begin their new campaign in a new conference, and will kick things off by hosting Point University on, Saturday, August 26, at 1:30 p.m. on Legion Field in Lake Wales, Florida.

In order to achieve a more balanced schedule overall and cut down on travel, Webber and the rest of what were The Sun Conference football teams have merged with the Mid-South Conference. All 10 games this season will be against teams in the Mid-South, including five games against division opponents. The Warriors will compete in the Sun Division.

"Our new conference and division placement should make for some really exciting football," said Head Football Coach Kelly Scott. "With more emphasis on staying closer to home and playing the major schools in your area, every games is a big game, and I think we will be very competitive in the conference and make our impact felt."

The Warriors have been working hard during the offseason and preseason training camp preparing for the challenge of a new conference. Returning to lead the Warriors on the offensive side of the ball this season will be quarterback Garry Chouloute, center Dylon Bernard, wide receiver Jeremiah Harris, fullback Tyler Modlin and tight end Nick Marill.

"Our guys have worked hard during our preseason training," said Scott. "I couldn't be happier with the attitudes they have displayed, and mixing that with the lack of injuries that we have had had made for a great camp."

Returning defensively for Webber is all-conference defensive end Dequan Harvin, Drakkar Wilson at nose tackle, Antonio Brown on the line, all-conference second-team linebacker Tyson Burch, fellow linebacker Aaron Givens, and safeties Alejandro Santos and Brandon Bell.

"I think the fans will really enjoy watching this team because it is a team that plays fast, plays hard and plays together," added Scott. "Our defense has done a great job of really running to the ball together and playing a fun style, and our offensive is going to try and put up a lot of big plays."

Last year, the Warriors finished third in The Sun Conference at 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the league. They knocked off the No. 9 team in the nation at one point, and on October 15, the Warriors won their conference opener against Point during the Skyhawks' Homecoming. The Warriors spoiled the celebration by rushing for four touchdowns and doubling up the Skyhawks 28-14. Chouloute scored twice on the ground while Mario Bargaineer and Austin Logue both nearly rushed for 100 yards apiece.
