Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Webber International University took the field in Lawrenceville today for their first ever NAIA National Championship appearance.
Juan Terron threw a masterpiece of a game holding the Eagles to just 2 hits while striking out 10.
GAME NOTES: Terron 2 Hits Eagles, Martis Extends Hit Streak to 16 Straight, Warriors Advance In Winners Bracket
#2 Webber International University Warriors (39-15) entered today's game full of mystery and excitement. The Warriors made their first ever appearance in the National Championship Opening Round. Set to take on the #3 Central Methodist Eagles(MO.) (42-16), head coach
Brad Niethammer sent
Juan Terron to the mound. Terron threw an absolute gem completing all 9 innings and holding the Eagles to just 2 hits while striking out 10. The Eagles threw Dariel Checo who respectfully completed the game on the mound as well throwing 8 innings holding the Warriors to 8 hits and 3 runs.
The Warriors offense proved again to be a force to reckon with. In the bottom of the 1
st inning,
Manny Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk followed by stealing second, then advancing to third on a
Matt Piatt base hit forcing a 1
st and 3
rd situation. The Eagles attempted to be crafty as the catcher tried to back pick Piatt at 1
st and the ball sailed into right field allowing Rodriguez to score and giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3
rd,
Manny Rodriguez again found his way on with a base hit to right field.
Sjaghbar Martis patiently followed with a walk putting runners on 1
st and 2
nd.
Marcus Begg stepped in and sent a Sacrifice Fly deep down the 1
st base line in foul territory that was caught but allowed Martis and Rodriguez to advance.
Matt Piatt stepped in and notched his 2
nd hit of the day on an infield single that scored Rodriguez then a wild throw allowed Martis to score as well. That was it for the Warriors offense as they gave way to
Juan Terron to finish off the Eagles 3-0.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The Warriors put themselves further in the record books as they break the single season win record again now with 39 just 1 shy of 40.
Sjaghbar Martis continued his hot streak as his hit extended his streak to 16 straight games. Of the 16 games, 8 have been multi-hit performances and he's driven in 12-runs.
Brad Niethammer said "I'm very proud of the guy's today, they came in knowing that the only way to make it through, will be to take it one game at a time." With the Warriors 39 wins so far, they put head coach
Brad Niethammer just 10 wins away from 700 on his career.
With the 4-3 conclusion of tonight's game between the host Georgia Gwinnett and The Master's (Calif), Webber International will face The Master's at 3:00 PM tomorrow for the winner's bracket matchup.
The Master's (37-21) drew the short stick in the tournament as they had to play twice today. They first knocked LSU Shrevport into the loser bracket defeating them 8-4. Then tonight they took on Georgia Gwinnett and defeated them 4-3.
