#13 Webber Baseball Uses 3-Run 8th Inning To Power Past #11 Keiser

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – #13 Webber International University baseball (25-7) took on the visiting #11 Keiser University SeaHawks (25-10) tonight in a non-conference matchup where both teams were in search of their 26th win.

GAME NOTES: Ballestero Breaks 1-1 Tie With 2 RBI Base Hit, Boling Throws 6 Innings Only Allowing 5 Hits

The Warriors jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st as Marcus Begg hit a single up the middle that scored Garrett Martin from 2nd. Keiser would tie it up 1-1 in the top of the 3rd with a monster solo homerun off the bat of Dylan Dore. The game stayed at a stalemate with both starting pitchers throwing fantastic games. The Warriors came up to bat in the bottom of the 8th inning trying to shake off stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the previous inning. They found themselves again with runners on 2nd and 3rd as Napo Ballestero stepped in and powered a blooper single into right field that scored Matt Piatt and Luis Esteban giving the Warriors a 3-1 lead. Cristian Rivera then shot a single into left field with runners on 2nd and 3rd scoring Brett Kaminski giving Webber the 4-1 lead. The lead would hold as Jesse Coleman came into pitch and shut the SeaHawks down 1-2-3 securing himself the save.

STAT LINE: Napo Ballestero was the only Webber hitter to have a multi-hit game as he went 2-4 at the plate with 2 crucial RBI's. Marcus Begg accounted for 1 RBI off a 1-3 night. Cristian Rivera was 1-4 with an RBI. Garrett Martin was 0-3 but drew 2 walks and snagged 3 stolen bases and scored the 1st run of the game following a lead-off walk. Max Boling threw 6 solid innings as he only surrendered 1 run off of 5 hits and struck out 3. He gave way to Brad Burdett who threw a scoreless 7th only giving up 1 hit. Zachary Gary was given credit for the win as he moves to 3-2 on the year after throwing a scoreless, hitless 8th inning. Then Jesse Coleman registered his 2nd save of the year as he also threw a scoreless, hitless 9th inning to close out the game.

FINAL THOUGHTS: The Warriors improve to 26-7 on the year. They travel this weekend to take on the #23 St. Thomas Bobcats in a big Sun Conference matchup. St. Thomas sits just 2 games ahead of the Warriors in the Sun Conference at 10-5. The Warriors will travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. with an 8-4 Sun Conference record. First pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
