Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Webber International University baseball traveled to St. Petersburg this evening to take on the NCAA D-II Eckerd College Tritons. After 3 innings of no score baseball, the Warriors took a 7 run 4
th inning, and a 6 run 8
th inning to lead to a 17-4 victory.
The Warriors scored 7 runs in the 4
th inning, 2 in the 5
th, 6 in the 8
th, and 2 in the 9
th inning to take tonight's game 17-4.
Sjaghbar Martis emerged tonight with an unreal performance. He went 3-5 with 7 RBI's. Martis started his night off in the 4
th inning with a powerful grand slam. As if that wasn't enough, he then hit a 2-run shot in the 8
th inning and just for good measure, he launched a solo homer in the 9
th inning capping off a Hercules like performance with a 3 homerun night and 7 RBI's.
Connor Clayton also made his mark on the evening with a solo homer in the 8
th inning. Not to be out done,
Napo Ballestero put his mark on the score board hitting a 3-run homer in the 8
th inning also.
Power was the name of the game for the Warriors this evening as
Matt Saliba hit a double and
Cristian Rivera smacked a triple.
Taking the mound for the Warriors tonight was
Max Boling. Boling came out looking like a seasoned veteran in his first outing. He pitched 5 innings only surrendering 1 earned run off of 8 hits and 5 strike outs.
Webber International University looks to their next series at home against the visiting (RV)Rio Grande RedStorm. The RedStorm have started the year receiving votes for the NAIA coaches top 25. Rio Grande split a 4 game set with (RV) Bryan College to start the year at 2-2.
The Warriors and RedStorm will play a 4 game set. The first double header will begin with the first pitch scheduled for Friday at 4:00 p.m. Then Saturday they will play another double header beginning at 12:00 p.m. Go Warriors!!!
