Webber Baseball Takes Series From Ave Maria

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 AVE MARIA, Fla. – Webber International University baseball opened up The Sun Conference play against Ave Maria this weekend. After suffering an 0-2 loss in the first game of three and their first loss of the season, the Warriors bounced back and won both games of the double header today scoring double digits in both, 14-3 and 10-4.

GAME 1
Yesterday, in the opening game of the series between the Warriors and Gyrenes, the Warriors found themselves on the unfortunate end of a 0-2 loss. Mark Martinez and Marcus Begg were the only Warriors to register a hit with Begg's being a triple bagger. Brady Mintell threw a brilliant 6.2 innings for the Warriors giving up 2 runs off of 7 hits and striking out 2. The story of the game was the Gyrenes Austin Munn, who threw 6.2 innings only letting the Warriors get 2 hits while striking out 6. The Warriors took their first loss of the year 0-2.

GAME 2
The Warriors offense was all but dormant for the second game putting up a 14 spot on the Gyrenes. With Sjaghbar Martis and Matt Piatt both hitting doubles in the 3rd inning, it launched the Warriors out to a 5-1 lead. Firing up the offense again in the 4th inning, Napo Ballestero blasted a solo shot that sparked another 4 spot for the Warriors who then led 9-1. The Gyrenes made a couple errors in the top of the 5th that opened the door again for Webber who capitalized but throwing up 4 more runs. A Ballestero sacrifice fly in the 6th to score Connor Clayton sealed the game 14-3. Anthony Hunter threw all 7 innings for the Warriors moving himself to 2-0 on the year. He only surrendered 7 hits and 3 runs with 0 walks and 2 strike outs.

GAME 3
Juan Terron took the ball for the third game of the series for the Warriors. He threw 6 innings giving up 8 hits and 3 runs while punching out 3 strike outs and securing the 10-4 win moving him to 2-0 on the year. Daniel Timmons went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Matt Saliba went 3-4 scoring 3 runs. Manny Rodriguez went 2-3 from the leadoff spot while swiping 3 bags in the game. Sjaghbar Martis continued being a solid RBI machine as he went 1-3, but drove in 3 giving him the team leading 14 RBI's so far this season.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Warriors offense is a force to get past as they now have put up double digits in 5 of 10 games and move to 9-1 overall with a TSC record of 2-1. They will receive several days off as they will wait to take on Florida Memorial in a matchup of the Sun Conference next Friday at 6:00 p.m. located at Heart of Florida Field on campus at Webber International University.
