BRUNSWICK, Ga. (December 9, 2017) – The Warriors led by 12 twice in the first half and battled back from down nine to make it a one-point game in the third quarter, but in the end the Webber International University women's basketball team fell on the road to the College of Coastal Georgia, 87-77, on Saturday afternoon at Coffin Gym.
With the loss, Webber drops to 2-8 overall on the season and 0-4 in The Sun Conference, while Coastal Georgia, which entered the day fourth in the conference standings, saw its record raise to 9-3 and 5-1. Saturday represented the first meeting between the Warriors and the Mariners since the 2013-14 season.
Ashley Perry and
Montrese Weller led the way for the Warriors, finishing with 23 and 19 points respectively. Perry finished 11-of-14 from the free throw line while also shooting 50 percent from the field (6-of-12), while Weller added a mark of 5-for-9 from 3-point range and was 4-for-4 on free throws. Additionally, Perry added six rebounds and five steals, and now averages 10.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and three steals per game through 10 games as a senior.
The Warriors first half featured two 13-1 runs, one to start the game and another to take a 26-11 lead three minutes into the second half. However, the Mariners would finish the opening 20 minutes on an 11-3 run to tie it up at the break at 34 apiece.
Webber's run to start the game featured baskets from six different Warriors on its first six scores as

Emmarrie Carmen and Weller helped get Webber off to a great start. The Warriors also combined for six steals in the first quarter, three by Perry, forced nine Mariner turnovers, and held Coastal Georgia to only 27 percent shooting from the field (0-for-6 on three's) while shooting nearly 45 percent themselves.
In the third quarter, Webber fell behind at 43-34 after a 9-0 start to the half by the Mariners, but battled back with an 8-0 run to get within one at 43-42 a little less than five minutes into the half.
The two teams then traded points as a three by Reed made it 48-47 with 4:26 left in the third quarter, but from there, Coastal Georgia closed out the period on a 10-1 run and then went ahead by 19 at 71-52 four minutes into the final quarter.
Two free throws by Perry got the score back to within single digits at 74-65 with 2:15 left, and then a three by Weller made it 82-75 with 40 seconds left.
Behind Perry and Weller, Carmen added 10 points on 50 percent shooting, and Zito added eight and Reed had six. Lastly, Reed and Zito both matched Perry with six rebounds to tie for the team lead, while Carmen added five boards.
Next up, Webber will host Thomas University in a game originally scheduled for Webber's home court, but has since been moved to the Turner Athletic Center on the campus of Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida. The Warriors and the Night Hawks will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13.
