BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 4, 2017) – The Warriors dynamic duo of
Madison Pike and
Laura Borders each scored in the first half, and
Angelina Conde added another score in the second half as the Webber International University women's soccer team defeated Ave Maria University, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon on Warrior Field.
Webber (5-2 overall, 3-2 The Sun Conference) scored each of the first three goals of the match as Pike opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a header off a free kick by
Amanda Cypriano.
A little less than eight minutes later, Borders added a goal in the 30th minute as
Isabella Aviolla nudged a free kick in the box right into the path of Borders for a strong score to add to the Warriors' lead.
Next, in the 68th minute, Conde made the score 3-0 as
Lauren Caffee assisted.
The Warriors, however, were unable to complete the shutout as freshman Lauren Campoe scored for Ave Maria (0-7, 0-4) in the 80th minute on a penalty kick for the first goal of her freshman year.
Sarah McKinney saved four of the five shots on goal she faced on Wednesday, while the Gyrenes goalkeeper Erica Larson, who is top-20 in saves per match in the country, finished with nine.
Webber outshout the Gyrenes 22-7 as Borders led the way with eight, Pike had five, and
Rachel Osborne,
Sydney Bailey and
Francesca Mascali each had two.
With the win, Webber moves into a tie for third place in the conference standings.
The Warriors will take a break from TSC action to host Trinity Baptist College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
