SAVANNAH, Ga. (October 14, 2017) – Senior
Laura Borders scored first to get the Warriors on the board midway through the opening half, and then-freshman
Madison Pike scored what would become the winning goal in the 79th minute as the Webber International University women's soccer team defeated SCAD Savannah 2-1 on Saturday at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
Webber improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in The Sun Conference with the win, good for a tie for third in wins in the conference standings with three other teams. Each of the last four meetings between Webber and SCAD (8-6-1, 3-4) have been decided by only one goal.
After Borders' goal in the 32nd minute, SCAD knotted things up just before halftime (43rd minute), setting up a second half in which Webber was outshot 10-4, but was still found the back of the net to pull out the victory.
Borders finished with four shots on the evening while
Marianna Scine and
Luiza Oliveira each added two.
Kendelle Knapp,
Lauren Caffee and
Francesca Mascali were the other shot takers for Webber, while
Sarah McKinney made three saves in goal.
The reminder of Webber's schedule consists of four TSC matchups, two at home and two on the road, as the Warriors look to book their ticket to the postseason. Webber will welcome the University of South Carolina Beaufort to Warrior Field on Wednesday, October 18, for a 1 p.m. matchup, and will then travel to Saint Thomas University for a 7 p.m. meeting on Saturday, October 21.
