Women’s volleyball beaten by Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (October 21, 2017) – For only the second time this season, the Webber International University women's volleyball team lost in The Sun Conference action as this time the Warriors fell to the College of Coastal Georgia, 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20) on Saturday at Howard Coffin Gym.

Webber remains in second place in The Sun Conference with an overall record of 19-5 and a conference record of 11-2, while Coastal Georgia moves into a tie for third in the conference in wins at 8-5 in the league (9-11 overall).

The Warriors defeated Coastal Georgia, the preseason conference favorite in the coaches' poll, 3-2 last month at the Sabbagh Athletic Center, but this time around the Mariners won big in the opening set, and then held on in a tight fourth set to knock off the defending conference regular-season and tournament champions.

Webber led 21-14 in the second set before Coastal Georgia got back to within four at 23-19 to keep it close. In the fourth set, a kill by Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu got the Warriors to within one at 17-18 before four straight Mariner points widened the margin to 22-18, a deficit Webber could not come back from.

Salanoa-Sagapolu led Webber with 18 kills, and Carlee Baxter had 32 assists.

Next up, Webber will battle Crooked Lake rival Warner University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, in Lake Wales, Florida, and will then square off against the only remaining team undefeated in conference action, Saint Thomas University, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, in Miami Gardens, Florida.
