Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla – It was a huge matchup today between the (RV) Warriors and the #10 Fire. A battle of the 1st and 2nd place teams in the Sun Conference. They would split the double header with the Fire winning game 1 by a score of 3-5 and the Warriors taking game 2 by the score of 4-1.
The first game started with a bang for the warriors as
Brandi Hazen, Sun Conference player of the week last week, sent a ball flying over the right field fence for a 3 run homerun. The Fire took advantage of several throwing errors by the Warriors that eventually found themselves up 5-3 and taking game 1.
In game 2,
Kayla Montgomery took to the mound for the Warriors. She had an outstanding performance keeping the #10 ranked Southeastern Fire to only 5 hits and 1 run. This win moves Montgomery to 4-4 on the year. Offensively, the Warriors again in the 1st inning put up 3 runs. With a 1-0 lead,
Laura Borders stepped to the plate with runners on first and second for Webber. She hit a hard grounder at the 3rd baseman Faulk who then threw the ball away causing
Brandi Hazen and
Alyssa Householder to score and advancing Borders to third base. The Fire scored their lone run in the top of the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 3rd,
Kayla Montgomery shot a double into the gap scoring
Laura Borders who was on second. This gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead and sealed the win.
Today was senior day for the Warriors. This means that the seniors were able to walk off the field for the last time beating the 10th ranked team in the nation. The Warriors finished regular season play at 24-14 and Sun Conference play at 9-5 with a 2nd place finish behind the Fire. Congratulations seniors and teammates! Thank you for a fantastic year! We look forward to you competing in the Conference tournament next weekend. Go Warriors!
