Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. – Webber International University baseball played a double-header against Bethel College, Wednesday, in the Dodgertown Spring Invitational. The Warriors scored 18 runs in the two games, taking game one, 9-3, and game two, 9-0.
On a day when the Warrior bats were hot, Ramon Sanchez and Sjaghbar Martis led the pack. Sanchez went 3-7 with three RBI and two doubles. Martis went 3-6 with three RBI of his own.
Trevor Jones picked up his first win of the season in game one after allowing only three runs over seven solid innings of work. Five Warrior pitchers contributed to a shutout in game two, with Matthew Gulik picking up the win.
Webber International 9, Bethel 3
The first two innings were tightly contested before the Warriors pulled away for a win in game one.
Webber International wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the top of the first. Martis picked an RBI with a well-hit single. A failed pickoff attempt allowed another runner to reach home, putting the Warriors up, 2-0.
Bethel College was able to tie the game up in the bottom of the second at 2-2.
The Warriors had an immediate response, retaking the lead in the third, 5-3. Malcolm Smith and Jake Frisosky each registered RBI singles, with Martis earning his second of the game, pushing home a runner with a grounder to second base.
Webber International put the game out of reach in the sixth, 9-2, behind some powerful full hitting. Of the four hits in the inning three were for extra bases, including back-to-back triples by Lenin Sanchez and R. Sanchez.
The Pilots would score one more run in the game, seeing the Warriors win out, 9-3.
Bethel 0, Webber International 9
The offensive outburst continued in game two, with Webber International posting nine runs on 13 hits. Five Warriors registered multiple hits in the game, with seven different players picking up at least one RBI.
The Warriors jumped ahead early, with four runs in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back double from R. Sanchez and Martis gave Webber International a 3-0 lead. Brett Kaminski forced the shortstop to commit on error, allowing another run to score, bring the score to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Jordan Thomas picked up an RBI, pushing Webber International's advantage to 5-0.
The Warriors effectively ended the game in the fifth, pushing home four more runs on fan impressive five hits. Webber International would go on to a, 9-0, shutout victory.
